The Coalition of Aid Fair (COAF) 2008, organised by the RGS ONE Chapter, will showcase a variety of community service projects related to the 8 Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) over a brief period of 2 days in the RGS campus. The dates have been chosen to coincide with Stand Up, Take Action Against Poverty in order to convey the message of taking action to achieve the MDGs.
Involved community service projects include AMBers, Monkey Business, Animal Concerns Research & Education Society (ACRES), Loving Youths for the Environment (LYFE), Overseas Service-Learning (OSL), Fairly Bothered, and many others.
In addition, this fair will provide the opportunity for these service-learning groups to raise funds or recruit volunteers, according to their needs. It is hoped that through this fair, the RGS community will not only become more aware of the projects that their peers are involved in, but also decide to be involved in such projects.
This fair also aims to encourage the RGS community to develop a genuine interest to serve the community, manifest their interest into concrete action through active participation in existing service learning projects, and/or to initiate their own projects in whichever sector they wish to serve. This fair is directed mainly at Secondary 2s and 3s searching for service-learning projects to undertake in the year 2009, and to inspire Secondary 1s to commit to such causes.
